School of Environment and Energy Engineering
1. General Information
School of Environment and Energy Engineering, established in 1984, came into being based on the original three courses, that is, the Water supply and Wastewater Engineering; Heating, Ventilating and Air-conditioning Engineering, Municipal Gas-supply Engineering.
There are three new courses in the school now. They are the Building Environment and Facilities Engineering, the Water Supply and Wastewater Engineering and the Environmental Engineering for undergraduate courses. In 2005 the educational level of the Building Environment and Facilities Engineering and the Water Supply and Wastewater Engineering were evaluated and approved by the Education Commission from theMinistry of Construction of the People’s Republic of China.
There are three disciplines including the Heating, Gas-supply, Ventilating and Air-conditioning Engineering, the Municipal Engineering and Environmental Engineering for postgraduate study of Master’s degree in the school. Beijing Municipal Key Laboratory, named as the Heating, Gas-supply, Ventilating and Air-conditioning Engineering, was established in the school in 2005, which lays good fundament for the education of postgraduate.
On research, the school occupies kinds of advanced facilities with the value of more than 16 million Yuan (RMB). An academic research team with high qualification and academic experience is working on the scientific research, developing novel products. The research team is focusing their attention on energy utilization and change, gas combustion technique, HVAC energy-saving technique, indoor air quality monitoring, collection storm-water and pollution control, technique of nutrient remove, technique of water reusing and prediction of water demand etc. In the recent year, the school has undertaken many national and provincial key research projects that have been awarded.
The school now has over 900 undergraduate and specialized
subject students, about over 200 postgraduates.
Over 3000 students, graduated from the school,
have played an important role in design, construction,
management, teaching and research of Beijing
municipal construction system.
2. Service Orientation
● Ideas of education
The school is carrying out the educational policy of our institute “We are based on the capital, but we face the whole country. With our priority in construction fields we are serving the city’s development”.
● Goal of education
The educational goal is to cultivate high level professional personnel with basic professional theory and knowledge, basic engineer training, and the idea of innovation to serve the municipal construction.
● Educational features
(1) serving for capital construction;
(2) strengthening the engineering ability of students by practice;
(3) improving courses relying on disciplines development.
3. Faculty and facilities
The school has five teaching and research sections, including Building Environment and Facilities Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Water Supply and Waster-water Engineering, Thermal Engineering and Fluids and Chemistry, as well as one Experimental Center that consists of four labs. The labs have an area of 4,800m2 and facilities with the value of more than 16 million Yuan (RMB). In addition, 16 practical bases outside school campus are available.
The school
has 68 staff. The titles for the teachers include
13 professors accounting for 26%, and 19 associate
professors in 43%. 13 teachers have PhD degrees,
24 teachers have Master Degrees, and 10 are
pursuing their PhD researches. 27 teachers are
qualified for postgraduate supervisors.
4. Achievements
In the past four years, the school has undertaken 99 scientific research projects of more than 10 millions Yuan (RMB). The achievements include 7 e prizes, 60 technical papers collected by SCI, EI, and ISTP, as well as 123 papers of key journals, 132 other papers, and 9 patents.
In addition, the school also has been in charge of 12 educational research projects. The educational achievements include 8 prizes, 12 papers, 20 textbooks, 14 reference books, and 13 institute supplementary and teaching materials.
The achievements of student research include 28 prizes in international and national professional competitions.
5. International academic exchange
In 2000, the Sino-French Energy Training Center was established under the support of China and French Ministries of Education. With the aid of the program, 49 students have been enrolled in French since 2002 and 10 teachers of our institute were sent to France for further study. In addition, the international joint education of PhD students with Auckland University in New Zealand and Delft University in Netherlands has been carried out since 2003, and some of international collaborative academic researching projects were being operated in both China and these countries. The programs mentioned above have laid a useful foundation for international collaborative education and academic researching of the school in the future.
In a few years, teachers of the school attended and orally presented the technical paper in national and international conferences many times. It dramatically enhances the influence of three disciplines in the school on the teaching and academic researching home and overseas. Simultaneously, many famous professors or academicians home and overseas were granted an honor or a visiting professors by our institute, and were invited to the school for making academic exchange by a forum, a seminar or a workshop. All of these would promote reasonably the development of teaching and academic research of the school.
